Chih Hoong is a passionate advocate for improving social outcomes systemically through collaboration, evidence and innovative financing.
‘As a great believer in public services and public value, I am passionate about bringing different players in society together to tackle some of the most entrenched social problems. While the challenges facing our public services are considerable, I firmly believe in the potential of genuine collaboration to ensure that we continue to meet the needs and aspirations of all segments of society.
This requires approaches that put social outcomes and public value firmly at the centre of everything we do. Public policy innovations cannot simply be technocratic or bureaucratic exercises, and innovations cannot be dispassionate and detached from those we serve.
We know that the people and organisations we work with rely not only on our technical expertise but also on our ability to help them navigate the relational challenges that come with collaboration and system change. This ability to connect and build bridges across ‘different worlds’ is critical to our role in creating a ‘safe harbour’ for people to build trust and capacity to work together on difficult matters.
I feel very privileged to be able to do so not only within the UK, but also in countries as diverse as Japan, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi. International learning and sharing is critical in helping all of us do better for our respective societies. Going on this journey together is always more fun than trying to weather the storms alone.'
