Lucy is an expert in deliberative engagement and research techniques that help communities have a say in the issues that affect them.
With qualifications in social research and a background in environmental campaigning, I came to Traverse back in 2011. Since then I’ve explored the same questions in many different contexts: why do people do the things they do, and not others? How does the environment we live in, bounded as it is by policy and regulation, shape our lives? How can we work towards a society that is more inclusive, where citizens are empowered and have agency? Increasingly my work focuses on the interaction of citizens with systems, whether that’s the health and care economy, or systems of energy use that either enable or limit transformation.
At Traverse I lead our social impact reporting, helping our team and our clients to think about how to better understand the impact of our work together, and therefore how to improve it. I work on some of our most complex research, engagement and consultation projects, and with our associate directors to develop new methods and content. I enjoy facilitating deliberative events, both on and offline, as much for what I learn from participants as for the process.
