Tom joined Traverse in July 2021, and brings a range of research and teaching experience to the team, with a degree and MA in Politics, postgraduate certificates in Advanced Research Methods and Post-Compulsory Education, and a PhD in Political Science with a focus on the political psychology of human rights support.
“I come from a politics research background, where I focused on understanding the foundations of people’s political attitudes. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work on a range of interesting projects prior to joining Traverse, including projects examining resilience in survivors of violence during conflicts, the availability and structure of youth organisations across Europe, the attitudes of young adults in further education towards asylum seekers, inclusive sexual health and relationship education in Bosnia, and political attitudinal responses to the pandemic.
Since graduating, I have been involved in adult learning through teaching in both further and higher education. As a teacher, I was passionate about providing people with opportunities to reflect on, express, and develop their social and political attitudes and capacities, and helping groups of students to navigate challenging political discussions.”
